Fat and Beautiful

Ever since I was a little girl I was fascinated by old movies and their lovely breathtaking classic beauties with their curvy hips and tiny waists strangled in tight corsets. In my idea women are supposed to look feminine, whatever that might imply. That is why I was so shockingly impressed of how beautiful a plus size woman can be, if she makes an effort and shakes away all the inhibitions.

I know from painful personal experience that 3 rows of bellies can hardly be hidden under a nice sexy dress, but there are certain outfits that can flatter any kind of figure.
However I should mention that I cannot agree with a woman being resignedly content with her size, and only because it is horribly unhealthy.

Eating everything you want, whenever you want can have tremendous effects on your well being (that I know from personal experience) . Sitting on your coach watching tv all day can't be healthy either.Eat whatever you want, but also move your ass a little, do some exercise...

Nevertheless nothing can excuse modern world's obsession with being skinny, far too skinny and thus ostracizing all the women above size 10. Most of these women, in my opinion, are far more appealing than the starving models we see on the catwalks.
And my boyfriend agrees with me....:).

It is a strange phenomenon, all this emphasis on being a size 0. I think a lot of men prefer a little something to hold onto. :)

I agree also and I'm not your boyfriend. Darn it!

Have a great day.

What an amazing and realistic post involving body image and how the world has been evolving towards thin being in yet again.

Excellent post!!! Skinny models are beautiful (its their job)... and real women are ALSO beautiful.

Having a little fat here and there doesn't necessarily mean that one is ugly. I appreciate women who knows how to dress and who feels confident with what they wear despite their size.

however if it's really morbidly obese women, I just find it disgusting!

They're not fat, they are just right. Personally I think ultra-skinny is hideous. A woman needs some curves on her - that's sexy.

I completely agree. Skinny is not attractive and it's very unhealthy, but there is a balance to having a few added pounds and being healthy, as well. This is a beautiful post, I love the pictures. These women are far more relatable to the majority.

Your sentiments are the truth! And what's more, you talk about being proud while still remembering the health aspect of being curvaceous. There are also health issues with skinny women--don't let the "skinny-is-in" aesthetic fool you into allowing it to be normalized and privileged over all else!

In Bromo Say What?!, I'm trying to get a similar point across. In my post, entitled "Owning It" (http://bromosaywhat.wordpress.com/2011/08/30/owning-it/), I try to appeal especially to the young adult gay male who feels this way and that way if he has a little more junk in the trunk. (I'm also going to do a reprise directed at that especially and vocally, and I have your wonderful post and beautiful accompanying pictures to thank for that.)

Thank you for this wonderful post (I found it on BolgCatalogue).

I think there is a big difference between fat and normal. Fat refers to an excess of weight beyond what is healthy. I think the word you are looking for is "curvy" or "normal" or "not underweight". Surely, women are not meant to be skeletons and they are quite repulsive when they are that thin. However, there is certainly a limit to how much weight is both attractive and healthy. Everyone should aim for a healthy body weight. No more "big is beautiful" or "small is beautiful". What ever happened to being healthy? It is not necessary to obsess about every pound, but both women and men should always aim for a weight that is healthy (as deemed by a doctor for their height and frame). That weight tends to be the most attractive (not too thin, not too fat).

Hello again.... Most definitely I will add a back-link. I rarely share guest posts on my actual relationship blog, although this topic is strongly involved with relationship behaviors, so in this case I will make an exception.
My intent was to post it on my website which I will do also and thank you for your confirmation ~

Those pictures were absolutely gorgeous! I actually found this blog through the womensselfesteem.com blog and I'm glad I did find it. As a curvy girl, those pictures and this post were both very refreshing for me.

What comes from inside, counts. Many women still feel 'unpretty' for being fat. And this often causing trouble for those around them (believe me).

Being confidence with your shape is important. Add more sensible clothing will do even better. But don't think too much of being pretty, because the global perception about skinnier is better still going all around.

The current obsession with 'skinny' is horrible. Women with curves are so much more beautiful, and healthy. Sure, there is a definite point where it crosses a line into obese, but that being said, there is a perfect middle where its sexy, beautiful, and healthy.
