Gaming like crazy at 34

When life seems too unbearable to deserve a serious approach, one must find a way to unwind. Some people are still looking for various ways to rediscover their lost innocence, I am fortunate enough to fully enjoy a significant level of naivete (which some might consider an inexcusable flaw when you're a certain age). But I've been grabbing hold of that frail grain of innocence and have been cherishing it like my most valuable asset.
To that last grain I owe my irresistible desire to write about unicorns and two headed monsters that can be easily defeated with the right magic spell. But, in order to survive, this enchanted grain needs to be constantly fueled with games and stories and fairy tales. So you must understand why I am so addicted to video games. But not just any video games...I am talking about World of Warcraft, Aion and Lineage. These online, role-playing games have millions of players all over the world and most of the players have ages between 25 and 50 years old.
They organize international championships and contests about who's the best sorcerer or the most accomplished elf priest. I am not that fervent a player, but I can't resist to take my one hour dose of gaming every day. And since my boyfriend entirely shares my addiction, we are one happy couple of wizards, he is an Orc and I am a sorceress Elf :).

I was heavily into EverQuest2 before SOE started really screwing it up. In the end, I preferred it head and shoulders above WoW because of the depth of lore and how amazing the stories were. It was also a ton more complicated, which made it so much more technical. And the Role Play aspect was deeper than any game out there. It was truly amazing. I tried other games, like Rift and The Old Republic, but nothing can match the true grandeur of being immersed in such an amazing world as EverQuest, well, before they started dumbing it down to be like WoW. *sigh*

That's great! If you both enjoy it you can have fun together, besides it is not such a bad thing to enjoy these games.
I am old fashioned in this way, maybe because I didn't have them when I grew up and never really got into them.
Ciao!

Sounds like you have a rewarding good time. I like to play Sacred 2. I am a mysterious warrior mage that rides around on a hellhound, killing wizards and destroying the undead. I haven't tried Warcraft yet... mostly because I'm too hooked into this RPG. I've heard it's quite an addictive game, though.

I'm not good at role playing games, I'm too much myself I guess yet I was a very good actor...

It's really nice that both you and your boyfriend enjoy the same addiction. If he annoys you, you can just zap him (online only, of course). LOL.

I might have to try this addiction of yours...

Ah Petronela,

Nothing wrong, regardless of one's age, wanting to have a bit of fun playing those video games, online. Within reason, of course. Perhaps you might like to have my son come and live with you. The times he yells at his online computer friends is scaring Penny the Jack Russell.

And nothing wrong with writing about the magical world you embrace. Speaking of age and I have 'wee folks' living in my enchanting garden, I'm way older than you and I let a bit of magical fantasy inspire my writing. Time to go dance and sing with the wee folks in my garden! :)

Your starstruck fan, Gary :)

A sorceress elf? Why am I not surprised? :)

I used to play old-fashioned D&D back in the day, but never been tempted by the online games - little enough time for the current claims on my life without inviting new ones.

Nice blog, as always, but I can never get over how fantastic the photos that you use are. Do you do them yourself?

I'm gonna pretend like I didn't read this although it was written very interestingly and enticingly. LOL... I don't do any games except the occasional Words with Friends. I have enough addictions: books, writing, Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc. etc. ... I don't need to add - what is it called? - role-playing games. Next thing you know I'll have another reason not to participate in reality. LOL. I do enough daydreaming as it is. :-)

Oh, BTW, I like that first fairies necklace. Think I'm gonna try to make one similar to that. Yea, I make jewelry occasionally too. See, I have no extra time for gaming. ;-)
