Roses in the snow
A very thick layer of snow has covered our village and, I hear, that we are to expect a worrying wave of extreme cold. My neighbors keep on connecting these wintery events with that friggin' end of the world scheduled on the 21st of December.

In the meantime they purchase extra quantities of fire wood, just in case the Apocalypse arrives and through some miracle they manage to survive along with their warm homes and comfy beds.Anyway, the short alley to our house has
been buried under a mountain of snow and, since our neighbors don't seem
to mind, we were the only one struggling with the snow shovels. In
our garden there are a few rose buds that are stubbornly facing the
winter and I was mesmerized by the magical contrast of scarlet red and snowy white.

I've always thought the snow and cold weather to be a cleansing time, one when we must pull in and reflect on what happened in our lives in the spring, summer, and fall.
Looks so magical! Snow is a hassle but it is so pretty!
I love those roses and your cute kittie :-)
Ciao bella!
Those photos are freakin' amazing!
Thank you Grace, if only you could see what a crappy camera I'm using, you'd laugh...
Those pictures are gorgeous - as is the lovely blue eyed cat. No snow for us today, but very thick ice! x
My mother lives in Berlin. The cold is vigorous. The ice makes people slipping on sidewalks.
Beautiful contrast of ice and rosebud, however, this flower will not withstand the intense cold.
Meanwhile, here the heat is unbearable ....

beautiful pics.. it almost makes me like winter...almost... :)
I kinda like snow, probably because we don't have to put up with it for months on end. It would be a change from the endless damp we've had since the end of October :)
What do your cats think of he snow? Do they get to go outdoors at all?
That would be mesmerizing, wouldn't it? My favorite color is red so I would have found the rose surrounded by the white snow particularly thought provoking. I think it would fuel a poem or something. :-) Love the photos.
Your brave, foolish, vibrant, lovely and defiant roses do make us see winter in a different light.
Those are gorgeous! The contrast is surreal and they look so delicate. I had to laugh about your description of your apocalypticly prepared neighbors.

Those roses. Oh, those roses. They are beyond beautiful. (As is the cat.)
I wonder how the neighbours think they can survive an apocalypse when shovelling snow is beyond them?
Thank you so much for the wintry beauty you have brought to my in-box today. I love it.
The snow on the roses is beautiful!
Hope you are keeping warm!

Ah, my dear friend, the beauty of the photos. A memory of the summer frozen in the chill of winter. :)
Stay warm and be well.
In kindness, Gary
I love those photos. Nature has so much beauty to offer.
Oh, oh! Stay warm and think warm thoughts! We usually deal with much colder temperatures than you do, so we are much better prepared, and go on like business in usual when it gets that cold! I hope your beautiful roses won't freak out and die... :(
Those flowers are amazing to be so red and beautiful even in all that cold...
Great shots! I love the last picture - it's so beautiful!!
