I've been... thunderstruck!!!!

Finally ..internet...!!!! It's been over 36 hours since we've been entirely cut out from the world. Two nights ago I've had one of the most shocking experiences I can remember....we were having dinner in our living room, when a most violent thunder storm started...out of nowhere and in no less than a minute  an incredible wind swept away half of our roof top, breaking two windows with the strange intensity of an implosion... and leaving our second floor half exposed.
While we were desperately fighting with the rivers of water that invaded our home, with blankets, pillows and cushions, trying to protect the valuables, we were observing with shock how our roof had been blown away on our neighbors' lawn, at about 500 meters away. When it finally stopped and we acknowledged the damage, I felt sick...I still am sick every time I go upstairs and see my favorite place looking like a grotesque exhibition of weird contemporary art. My boyfriend thinks we've been hit by a thunder, but we saw no traces of burned matter, so we're still investigating. Yesterday we managed to fix the roof, today we changed the windows, but the second floor needs an entirely new ...ceiling. I gotta say, this entire event shocked me really hard, but staying so long without communications sucked almost as much. And this whole affair made me realize what a serious addiction I have when it comes to my connection with the world. Anyway I wish to apologize for my absence, it was motivated....

Whoa - sorry about that! Right now we are having major thunder storms and the power went off and on 3x in 15 minutes. We are kinda used to losing power here on the East Coast of the USA - and in the past year all up and down the coast there have been storms/hurricanes/derechos that have wiped out entire towns...it was what it is here - but getting worse with every season...and you never get used to it. Just be glad no one was hurt - "stuff" can be replaced, people can't.

Oh God, that looks awful. You must have been so scared. Glad you're both okay and the damage is just to your house. Bad enough, I know... but your safe.

Wow. What a scary moment. I've been in tornados and thunderstorms before that pummeled my roof with baseball-sized hail, but I've never had the roof come off!

I'm glad no one got hurt. What a crazy mess!

Sounds like a very strong gust of wind rather than lightning. You're right, that would have left burn marks, and wouldn't have sent your roof 500m away. Very scary, indeed. Glad you're both OK and managing to put your house back together again.

Oh my goodness! I'm so relieved you and your boyfriend are safe. That must have been awfully frightening.

I had water gush in during heavy rain while I was sleeping in my room (while I was still living with my parents). I got up just in time to see the ceiling collapse on where I was sleeping. It was frightful and my Mom and I (my Dad happened to be out) could only watch helplessly as the water continued to pour in. When my Dad got home, he found out why it happened. Some monkeys had thrown plastic bags into our gutter which clogged it up. Since it rained heavily, the water ended up overflowing into MY room...Dang those monkeys.

I'm glad no one was hurt. We get storms like that, and I'm very thankful all we've lost have been shingles from the roof. I can imagine how you felt.

Dear,

I am also shocked with what happened you and your husband, but luckily you are safe.

Nothing worse than going to sleep and be woken with a storm that we have no way to brake or stop. Where I live (currently on an island within the city) happens crazy gales and they are frightening.

I hope you do not suffer much financial loss to repair everything.

Kisses

Our news has been full of tornadoes lately. They do so much damage! I'm glad you and your house are still standing, even though losing your roof would be a horrible experience. Hope your repairs go quickly. And glad you're back!

Whew! Glad no one was hurt. That's a pretty freaky experience.

Do you feel like you've been going through withdrawal the last few days? I think I might go insane if I was suddenly cut off from the internet. Hope repairs come together quickly.

Sorry to here about your roof and happy you're back online. That loss of connectivity was surprisingly hard, wasn't it? We went through it recently and it was disorienting, to put it mildly.
